GEC members discussed and agreed the “Guidelines on the place of men and boys in gender equality policies and in policies to combat violence against women”, which will be submitted to the Committee of Ministers for adoption. In the course of the meeting, the GEC members exchanged views with Dunja Mijatović, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, with Iris Luarasi, President of the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO), and with Carlien Scheele, Director of the European institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) on a wide range of issues, as the GEC embarks upon preparation for the third Gender Equality Strategy from 2024-2029. Additionally, the results of a study on the impact of COVID-19 on women’s access to justice were launched. Other topics discussed included the draft study on “the impact of artificial intelligence, its potential for promoting equality, including gender equality, and the risks to non-discrimination”; the draft 2022 annual report; as well as the annual conference, to be organised on 27-28 April 2023 under the auspices of the Icelandic Presidency of the Committee of Ministers. Moreover, Luxembourg presented the launch of their national campaign on sexism, which was inspired and based on the Council of Europe’s campaign Sexism: See it. Name it. Stop it! The GEC members also elected its Bureau for 2023: Chair - Ralph Kass (Luxembourg), Vice-Chair - Karin Bengtson (Sweden), and Bureau member - Andri Savva (Cyprus).
