From 18-20 November, the members of the Committee of Experts of the Charter came together in Strasbourg for their 80th plenary. At the meeting they adopted the 7th evaluation report on the application of the Charter by Cyprus, which will be made public early next year once the authorities’ comments, if any, received. Special emphasis was put during the meeting on the role of new media with presentations made by Prof. Elin Haf Gruffydd Jones from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David; Gwyn Nissen, editor-in-chief of Der Nordschleswiger, member of the governing board of the European Association of Daily Newspapers in Minority and Regional Languages (MIDAS); Craig Willis from the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI); and Carlos Amado, from DigochoEu, TikTok channel operated by Televisíon de Galicia, on 19 November, as well as an exchange of views on the digital inclusion of endangered regional or minority languages with representatives of the indigenous languages’ digital inclusion project by Motorola and Lenovo Foundation. Finally, on 20 November, Mihaela Zatreanu, leading expert for ERIAC Romani Language Initiative, presented Romani language textbooks for grades A1, A2 and B1 prepared by the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) to the Committee of Experts. |
