Workshop #3 "Le Volume Complémentaire du CECR: qu'y a-t-il de nouveau pour l'enseignement des langues?"

The third workshop of CEFR Online Workshop Series 2022 entitled “Le Volume Complémentaire du CECR: qu'y a-t-il de nouveau pour l'enseignement des langues? [The CEFR Companion Volume: What's new for language teaching?]" will take place on Thursday, 7 April 2022 from 16.00 until 18.30 CET.

This workshop , which will be given in French, will aim to present the key concepts of the CEFR Companion Volume and to show how they enrich the original text on a theoretical and practical level: action-oriented approach, learner as a social actor, mediation, plurilingual and pluricultural competence... The workshop will continue with a discussion in small groups on examples of activities and their links with the cited concepts and with the revised descriptors. Finally, a plenary discussion will take place.

The workshop will be moderated by Evelyne Bérard. Ms Bérard is currently a consultant, previously she was a lecturer and director of the Centre de Linguistique Appliquée de Besançon. She has a PhD in Linguistics and Didactics. She is the co-author of French teaching packages based on the CEFR levels and the author of books and articles on the teaching of French as a foreign language, as well as grammar books.

Background
Following the publication of the CEFR Companion volume in 2020, the Council of Europe’s Education Department organised monthly Webinars in 2021 to help language professionals familiarise themselves with the key concepts of the CEFR and consider ways for integrating those into teaching and learning practices. Key concepts covered were action-oriented approach, digital agency in social practice and language education, plurilingualism in the classroom and engaging learners’ plurilingual and pluricultural competence, as well as mediation in relation to sign languages. The PowerPoints, video recordings, Classroom materials and Background readings from these workshops are now being made available online at www.coe.int/lang-cefr.
