Encourage Member States to accede to the relevant European and international statelessness conventions and withdraw reservations

Encourager les États membres à adhérer aux conventions européennes et internationales pertinentes relatives à l'apatridie et à retirer leurs réserves.

Within the framework of its intergovernmental activities, the Council of Europe hereby undertakes to promote the accession of all its (47) member states to the European Convention on Nationality (ETS No. 166) and to the Convention on the Prevention of Statelessness in relation to State Succession (CETS No. 200). Encourage its member states that have made reservations to the above-mentioned conventions to withdraw them, bearing in mind the purpose and objectives of these conventions. Support, in parallel, the UNHCR campaign encouraging all states to accede to the 1954 Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons and the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.

Dans le cadre de ses activités intergouvernementales, le Conseil de l'Europe s'engage par la présente à promouvoir l'adhésion de tous ses (47) États membres à la Convention européenne sur la nationalité (STE n166) et à la Convention sur la prévention des cas d'apatridie en relation avec la succession d'Etats (STCE n200). Encourager ses Etats membres ayant formulé des réserves sur les conventions précitées à les retirer, en gardant à l'esprit l'objet et les objectifs de ses conventions. Soutenir, en parallèle, la campagne du HCR qui incite tous les états à adhérer à la Convention de 1954 relative au statut des apatrides et à la Convention de 1961 sur la réduction des cas d'apatridie.

The Council of Europe - European Committee on Legal Cooperation - is to prepare a compendium of good practices and a non-binding legal instrument on procedures dealing with statelessness and access to nationality for children.

The Limited Working on Migration of the European Committee on Legal Cooperation met twice in 2024 to start work on the compendium of good practice and, at this stage, a feasibility study to assess which instrument should be developed.
