ADVANCING WOMEN’S ACCESS TO JUSTICE AND COMBATING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
The network of law school representatives from major universities in Armenia, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine agreed on recommendations on how to better mainstreaming gender efforts in curricula during its first meeting.

The regional network of Eastern Partnership judicial training institutions met for the second time to advance on women’s access to justice and gender mainstreaming across training of judges and prosecutors. The focus of this second meeting was the improvement of the co-operation between network members.

COUNTERING ECONOMIC CRIME

More transparency in the fight against money laundering in the Republic of Moldova. Participants from the banking and non-banking sector, representatives of public institutions as well as lawyers, notaries and bailiffs received in-depth training on beneficial ownership identification and reporting. The training session, organised in co-operation with the Service for Prevention and Combating Money Laundering of the Republic of Moldova, aimed at helping national institutions to strengthen the integrity of the financial sector.

PROMOTING EQUALITY AND NON-DISCRIMINATION
ARMENIA

A working discussion on the draft law on national minorities brought together representatives of national institutions and of national minorities at the initiative of the Armenian Ministry of Justice, following the adoption of the opinion to the draft law, adopted by the Venice Commission at its 139th Plenary session on 21-22 June 2024.

REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA

The protection of victims of discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the northern region of the country was discussed by 57 legal professionals, police officers and representatives of national authorities working in the field of equality during a workshop held in Balti.

Representatives of equality bodies from the Eastern Partnership and Western Balkans regions met in Strasbourg to discuss best practices, measures and shared challenges when addressing hate speech and hate crime. Peers from Spain and Italy attended and provided insights and practical examples in the field. The workshop explored opportunities for legislative reform, multisectoral co-operation, data collection, and improved national mechanisms to counter hate crimes.

STRENGTHENING JUSTICE
UKRAINE

Improving the electronic document management system of the Constitutional Court in Ukraine was the focus of the working group organised for its staff members. Experiences from similar exercises in the country and abroad were used by experts as examples. The work aims at strengthening the Constitutional Court of Ukraine’s function, in line with European standards.
