In its latest report on Portugal, covering the period from 2022 to March 2026, GRETA welcomes the adoption of the 5th National Action Plan for Preventing and Combating Human Trafficking, the setting up of a working group of prosecutors specialised to work on human trafficking cases. However, GRETA calls on the authorities to improve the identification of victims and ensure that they have effective access to legal aid and compensation.

In its latest report on Malta, covering the period 2021-2025, GRETA welcomes the adoption of a National Anti-Trafficking Strategy for 2024-2030 and legislative amendments to strengthen the protection of victims. However, GRETA stresses that further efforts are needed to ensure victims’ access to compensation and legal aid, reduce delays in court proceedings, and improve identification of victims of trafficking among migrants and asylum seekers.

GRETA’s fourth report on the United Kingdom, covering the period from July 2021 to November 2025, welcomes progress in reducing delays in victim identification and revising guidance on the non-punishment of victims of trafficking. However, it highlights difficulties faced by victims in accessing free legal aid and compensation, and the need for more resources, increased prioritisation and better co-ordination between law enforcement and other agencies.

GRETA’s fourth report on Latvia, covering the period 2021-2025, welcomes the adoption of a new national action plan against human trafficking (2025–2027) and legislative amendments strengthening the protection of child victims of trafficking. However, GRETA calls on the Latvian authorities to  ensure the timely identification of victims of trafficking and their referral to support services, regardless of whether criminal proceedings are initiated.

A delegation of GRETA carried out an evaluation visit to Sweden from 1 to 5 June 2026, as part of the fourth evaluation round of the Anti-Trafficking Convention. In addition to the thematic focus of the fourth evaluation round, GRETA reviewed the implementation of recommendations from its third evaluation round report on Sweden. Meetings with relevant officials were held n Stockholm and Malmö. The delegation visited a shelter for victims of trafficking and a counselling centre in Stockholm, as well as a special residential home for young people in  Södertälje.

A delegation of GRETA carried out an evaluation visit to Azerbaijan from 18 to 22 May 2026, as part of the fourth evaluation round of the Anti-Trafficking Convention. . In addition to the thematic focus of the fourth evaluation round, GRETA reviewed the implementation of recommendations from its third evaluation round report on Azerbaijan. The delegation met with officials from a range of government departments and agencies. It also held meetings in Sumgayit and visited a state shelter for victims of trafficking in Baku.

A delegation of GRETA carried out an evaluation visit to Poland from 30 March to 3 April 2026, as part of the fourth evaluation round of the Anti-Trafficking Convention. Alongside the thematic focus of the fourth evaluation round, GRETA reviewed the implementation of recommendations from its third report on Poland. Meetings were held with government officials, NGOs, lawyers and international organisations. The delegation also visited an NGO-run shelter for victims of human trafficking and a reception centre for asylum seekers in Białystok.

The 2026 Police Network Conference, entitled "Strengthening Police Responses to Trafficking in Human Beings: Applying Council of Europe Standards in Practice", brought together some 60 senior law enforcement officials, government experts and representatives of civil society and international organisations.

The President of GRETA, Conny Rijken, addressed the 26th Conference of the OSCE Alliance against Trafficking in Persons, calling for stronger action against trafficking for criminal exploitation. Speaking on the panel “Charting the Way Forward: Turning Insight into Impact”, GRETA’s President underscored the importance of early victim identification, which is a precondition for applying the non-punishment principle.
