Welcome to the first newsletter of the Central Asia Rule of Law Programme 2020-2023

This quarterly newsletter will share some news on the main developments of the joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe - Central Asia Rule of Law Programme.

Joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe

The Programme aims at improving the lives of citizens by reinforcing human rights, rule of law and democracy in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic,

Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan through three main Actions:

Facilitating the creation of a common legal space between Europe and Central Asia and enhancing human rights protection
Promoting transparency and action against economic crime (CA-TAEC)
Promoting efficient functioning of state institutions and public administration

Inception phase has been completed and the Programme has entered its implementation phase

The Programme’s workplan was fine-tuned and a co-ordination team in the Office

of the Directorate General of Programmes (ODGP) in Strasbourg was established. The team actively works on increasing the Programme’s field presence in the region through opening an office in one of the countries of Central Asia.

The first Regional Steering Committee Meeting will take place on 29 January 2021

We are kindly inviting you to attend the official part of the event and to listen to

the discussions concerning the implementation of the Programme with the participation of high-level representatives of national authorities, the EU and the Council of Europe.
