Dear Secretary General

I have the honour of presenting the candidacy of Mr Hans-Peter Furrer, currently Director of Political Affairs at the Council of Europe, for the post of Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

The Swiss authorities consider that Mr Furrer's abilities and service, especially the active part he has played in the enlargement of the Council of Europe, make him particularly well qualified to assume the important role of Deputy Secretary General at a time when the Organisation is consolidating its enlargement.

In accordance with due form, I enclose a copy of Mr Furrer's curriculum vitae which I should be most grateful if you would transmit to the Committee of Ministers together with this letter, under the appointments procedure.

Yours faithfully

Flavio COTTI
