Congress delegation heading for monitoring mission to assess grassroots democracy in Denmark
Strasbourg, 28.09.2012 - The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will carry out a monitoring visit in Denmark from 3 to 5 October 2012. Congress Rapporteurs Julia COSTA, Portugal (L, EPP/CD), and Jean-Pierre LIOUVILLE, France (R, SOC), will examine the follow-up of the commitments made by this member State in the field of local and regional democracy. Denmark ratified the European Charter of Local Self-Government in 1988. On 3 and 4 October, meetings will be held in Copenhagen, on 5 October in Dragør, Sorø and Maribo.
In Copenhagen - apart from the meetings with the Danish delegation to the Congress and representatives of national associations of local and regional authorities, the delegation will discuss with the Minister of Economy and Interior, the Chair of the Capital Region Council, Danish Ombudsman, the President of the Supreme Court and the Speaker of the Danish Parliament.
On 5 October, meetings are planned with the local and regional elected representatives from the municipalities of Dragør and Lolland, as well as with the President of Zealand Region.
The report on the situation of local and regional democracy in Denmark will be submitted for approval at a meeting of the Congress’s Monitoring Committee in 2013 and subsequently debated at a Plenary Session.
