The Deputies are invited to examine the progress report on the Campaign, take note of it and instruct the Secretariat to develop the concepts of the Campaign by means of new events.

1. At their 638^th meeting (1 and 2 July 1998, A level, item 1.5), the Deputies took note of the progress of preparations for the Campaign and decided to open a special account for the Campaign. They also agreed to resume discussion of this item at a forthcoming meeting.

2. Since then the Campaign has been officially launched. The launch took place in Lisbon on 10 September under the media title "Europe in the World – the World in Europe. Council of Europe Campaign for World Solidarity". The latest developments are set out in document CM(98)185 and Addenda 1 and 2, which the Deputies are invited to examine with a view to the adoption of the appended draft decisions.

The Deputies,

1. took note of the state of progress of the Campaign, as set out in document CM(98)185 and Addenda 1 and 2;

2. instructed the Secretariat to use, under the authority of the International Organising Committee and the Campaign Steering Group, all the means at its disposal to develop and implement the concepts of the Campaign as widely as possible;

3. decided to resume consideration of this item on the basis of a report to be prepared by the Secretariat in the first three months of 1999.
