PROGRESS REPORT ON THE RAPPORTEUR GROUP
ON INFORMATION POLICY (GR-I)

Action

In the light of the report of the Chair of the Rapporteur Group on Information Policy (GR-I), the Deputies are invited to take appropriate decisions cncerning the current review by the GR-I of the Council of Europe information policy.

1. At their 600^th meeting (9-10 September 1997, A level, item 1.6), the Deputies invited the GR-I "to initiate a detailed review of the Council of Europe information policy, with a view to proposing appropriate recommendations on this matter, particularly with the 50^th Anniversary in mind".

2. Following this decision, the GR-I held four meetings, on 18 November 1997 and 28 January 1998, as well as on 9 and 18 March 1998. The Synopses of these meetings appear in documents GR-I(97)9, GR-I(98)5, GR-I(98)9 and GR-I(98)10 respectively.

3. At the 624^th meeting of the Deputies (24-25 March 1998, A level), the Chair of the GR-I proposed to make a progress report on the work of the GR-I at the present meeting.
