COUNCIL OF EUROPE
COMMITTEE OF MINISTERS

The Deputies adopted the following message on the occasion of the investiture (1 March 1985) of the President of Uruguay:

"The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, on the occasion of the ceremony of investiture of the President of Uruguay following the recent elections in that country,

Welcomes the peaceful return to democracy in Uruguay with the investiture of the country^'s first elected President for more than 11 years and expresses its support for the Uruguayan people in this democratic development,

Reaffirms the 21^–nation Council of Europe's support for the process of democratisation and the restoration of human rights in all countries of Latin America,

Strongly hopes that those values which are the very essence of the Council of Europe will come to prevail throughout that region of the world, and this in the conviction that such a development will contribute to closening ties and co-operation with the democratic European States, members of the Council of Europe in all fields of common interest and in a spirit of solidarity.^"
