Pestalozzi Programme Summer School

The general aim of the training activities of the Pestalozzi Programme is to train education professionals to become multipliers for Council of Europe standards and values in education.

The work is based on three main pillars

There will be common activities for all participants in English and courses in English, French and German. No interpretation will be provided so participants will need to speak English, or German AND English, or French AND English.

8.       Number of available places: 65

i.                     up to 40 participants from the signatory States to the European Cultural Convention

a.       nominated by the National Liaison Officers of the Pestalozzi Programme, taking into account the required participants’ profile (point 9)

ii.                   up to 20 participants from the Land of Baden-Württemberg

a.       identified and nominated by the Baden-Württemberg authorities, taking into account the required participants’ profile (point 9)

iii.                  up to 5 participants from other countries

a.       identified and nominated by partner organisations or institutions taking into account the required participants’ profile (point 9)

9.       Target group:

Teachers of all subjects from primary school to upper secondary school (6-19) and other education professionals (School heads, parent representatives, community representatives, school psychologists, educators from the non-formal education sector, etc.)

Participants commit themselves to actively participate in all phases of the work:

        preparatory tasks before the Summer School;

        active participation throughout the whole duration of the Summer School;

        reporting, follow-up and dissemination after the Summer School

Participants must be able to sustain professional communication in the working language(s) of the

Summer School (English, or German AND English, or French AND English)

The overall workload, including the participation in the Summer School is estimated to be between 80-100 hours. Participants will receive certification for the completion of this training programme indicating the nature of competences developed and the workload of the training.

10.   Focus of the training activity :

The training will deal with the various aspects of the overall theme “Understanding diversity”. In particular it will focus on topics such as Intercultural competence development, ethics of diversity, inclusive education and schools, prevention of discrimination and history of all and for all. Further aspects of the overall theme will also be taken up as well as pedagogical and methodological issues such as cooperative learning for democratic education, innovation and creativity, fostering motivation and curiosity, education for personal development and the multiple purposes of education, the role of teachers and schools for democratic societies, etc.

Participants will have the possibility to choose their personalised learning curriculum from a wide range of offers.

Common activities activities throughout the eight days will allow participants to work together as a whole group, to learn together and to exchange ideas and experiences and a public round table discussion on the question “Does school have a future? Which schools for a diverse and truly democratic society?” will offer an opportunity to address and reflect on an important educational issue and to interact with a wide variety of interested professionals.

The participants will  also join  the Community of Practice of the Pestalozzi Programme, a network of education professionals equipped to continue the training on an international, national, regional and local level with a shared view of the competences which need to be developed and of the appropriate methodology of training and teaching.

12.   Outline of programme :

The detailed offer of courses will be made available to the selected candidates who will then be invited to select their own course programme to complete their registration.

15.   Travel and subsistence expenses:

The Council of Europe will cover the travel expenses for participants from the signatory States (8.i) according to the rules. The Academy of Bad Wildbad offers accommodation and meals as well as the training facilities.

16.   Other information:

The success of the training activities depends on the commitment of all the participants. By accepting to participate in the Pestalozzi programme, participants and facilitators agree to participate actively and assiduously in all the phases of the activity.
