« Under the aegis of the Council of Europe, the Cultural Routes certification was created; a certification of excellence and an example of cooperation between citizens, peoples, countries and continents, where European identity, values and heritage are reflected. [...] The Cultural Routes, with the essential involvement of countless people and entities, are thus routes that enhance the archaeological, cultural and artistic heritage; as well as customs, religious and secular traditions, landscapes and cities, to show us that culture is the best way and the best place for encounter. [...] Let us continue building Europe from the knowledge and from the encounter » (Felipe VI, King of Spain).

« Since 1995 the Carlos V Award has been given to some of the great contemporary Europeans who have done so much to promote our common heritage, identity and integration. [...] But, for the first time, this prize has gone to an institution, in recognition of our Cultural Routes Programme. [...] The success of this project stems from the inherent demand from Europeans for a greater understanding of our common identity, underpinned by our common cultural heritage [...] It is a testament to citizens’ own curiosity and commitment that this Programme has succeeded » (Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe).

« And here we understand what the Cultural Routes mean: knowledge, respect, feeling equal in difference or feeling different within equality, in deepening in those links and those deep values that constitute the true spirit of what Europe means. [...] Cultural Routes that unite, that energize territories and also sectors, granting quality, creating networks and giving life. [...] And the most important thing is that this heritage is being known by our youth, through quality and certified educational and leisure tourism, which is synonymous with excellence » (Guillermo Fernández Vara, President of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura and President of the Fundación Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste).

The integral version of the speech of the President of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura and President of the Fundación Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste Guillermo Fernández Vara is available in Spanish on the website of the Fundación.
