European Day of Civil Justice in Bosnia-Herzegovina

The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC), as an independent and autonomous state institution tasked to ensure the maintenance of an independent, impartial and professional judiciary, held a session in July 2006 and decided to promote the European Day of Civil Justice. I need to remind you that that this day will be celebrated for the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, considering lack of information about the day, the HJPC decided to inform relevant institution within Bosnia and Herzegovina about significance of the day and modalities of celebration. The written memorandum was prepared and sent to 120 different institutions including all courts, prosecutor’s offices, ministry of justices, bar associations, law faculties, association of judges and prosecutors.

Also, all these institutions were informed about a possibility to participate in winning "The Crystal Scales of Justice” prize for innovative practices contributing to the quality of civil justice. In order to assist the institutions, the HJPC has prepared a translation of a relevant material into a local language. The following documents were translated from: Rules, Entry form, as well as those projects that participated in 2005. In addition to this, the winning Finish project was completely translated. After the documents were translated, they were distributed among 120 different judicial institutions, and those institutions are advised to participate and were reminded of 31 August 2006 deadline for submitting applications.

The HJPC itself is in the process of preparing a candidature - entry for this Prize.

Apart from that, the HJPC itself has decided to promote the European Day of Civil Justice. So, the HJPC decided to organize on 25 October 2006 a “day of open doors” for law students from all law faculties in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to that, there will be a press conference held at premises of the HJPC, and we expect the most prominent journalists to attend the conference.
